Japanese jazz is sadly one of the worlds best-kept secrets. But, it would be a huge
loss to miss “Mine”, the sublime first album of Kosuke Mine Quintet, released in 1970
on the legendary Three blind mice label. Over the course of four extended jams, Kosuke
Mine's sax (alto and soprano) and Hideo Ichikawa's fender Rhodes, sway, shuffle and
dance like a pair of courting grebes. The result is a monument of dense and spiritual
jazz - at once expressive, expansive and totally switched on.

        4. Spanich Flower 11:15

Le Tres Jazz Club bring us more Japanese jazz in the shape of “Green Caterpillar” by
Masaru Imada trio + 2. Led by Masaru Imada and his Fender Rhodes, the record opens
with “A Green Caterpillar”, a 11 minutes piece whose groove is somewhat reminiscent
of Marc Moulin and his Placebo band. “A Straight Flash” continues along this line,
while on “Blue Impulse” and “Spanish Flower” Masaru Imada uses the piano in a much
more modal style. A true classic of mid seventies Japanese jazz.

Jacky Giordino was a session musician making library music. He also made music under
the names Jacky Nodaro and Jacky Sherylee. He loved the organ so he thought he’d make
a jazz / funk / soul album in tribute adding a bit of bass synth to the mix. Organ
was released in 1977 and it could well have soundtracked a gritty cop B-movie of the
time.

approach giving the album a smooth jazz / easy listening sheen.

LTJC 005 ELYSIAN SPRING GLASS FLOWER LP 09.2018

French jazz from the late sixties is an underappreciated niche. Mais pas ici at Norman
Records. Imagine the heartfelt joy we felt when our kind amis at Le Tres Jazz Club
announced their repressing of Elysium Spring’s cult classic, Glass Windows. Finally,
these soft and gentle jazz tones will be available to a wider audience.

LTJC 006 GEORGE OTSUKA QUINTET PHYSICAL STRUCTURE LP 09.2019

        2. Mustard Pot
        3. Naima
        4. Little Island

Le Tres Jazz Club has been searching deep into the Japanese jazz archives once again
to find jazz fusion classic Physical Structure by George Otsuka Quintet. Otsuka,
a phenomenal jazz drummer, led the band that also featured keyboardist, Fumio Karashima
and tenor saxophonist, Shozo Sasaki. Reissued for the first time since its original
release in 1976, and for the first time outside of Otsuka’s native Japan.

LTJC 007 NAUSUKE MIYAMOTO SEXTET : STEP! LP 09.2019

        2. A New Shade Of Blue
        3. Where Do They Go
        4. One For Trane
        5. Blues

Japanese jazz reissues are very much in vogue at the moment - something due in no
small part to the great work being done by labels like Le Tres Jazz Club and Studio
Mule. This new edition of the Naosuke Miyamoto Sextet’s 1973 LP STEP! comes courtesy
of the former and is another fine example of Japan’s mid-century jazz scene. Hard,
modal post-bop - it’s also the only album the group ever made, which adds to the
curiosity factor.
